Factors need to be considered when choosing a tying rope
Generally, there are main three types of rope material. Polypropylene, Nylon or Polyester.To determine which material works best for tying we will compare their fiber stretch, break strength, abrasion resistance, and overall safety.

Fiber Stretch
One of the reasons that tying become loose is that the tying rope will stretch under a load. Polypropylene is a form of plastic and can stretch over 50% under load. Nylon tends to stretch between 20 to 30% under a 2500-pound load. Polyester stretches only 5 to 15%, making polyester tying rope ideal for heavy loads.

Break Strength
The break strength of a tying rope is the maximum stress or load that can be applied to the fabric before failure or it breaks. Polypropylene has a break strength of 700 pounds, Nylon is 2,500 to 7,000 pounds and Polyester is 2,000 to 10,000 pounds.

Abrasion Resistance
Tying rope that resists abrasion is extremely important in securing your load. Even seemingly minor damage can significantly reduce the capacity of a tying to hold objects and wear out the tying rope during use. Polyester ropes is more resistant to abrasion than Nylon or Polypropylene.

Overall Safety
Keeping your load safe and secure is extremely important. A tying rope must be able to withstand the abrasion as well as have a high break strength and a minimal amount of fiber stretch. Using stretchy tying ropes can cause damage because the stretchy strap lacks the tension needed to keep the load secure. When comparing overall safety of different tying rope, Polyester ropes is the clear winner.
